We will have a Resource Table at three of our local Community Walks. The Community Walks, held in hundreds of communities across the country, are the core of the AFSP Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost. It’s more important than ever for us to stay connected to help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Click HERE to find a walk near you.

While we at Friends for Survival feel that *every day* is loss survivor day, the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is a day of remembrance and support for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. It provides an opportunity for survivors to connect, share their experiences, and find comfort and healing in a community of understanding individuals.
November 23. Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is observed on the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year.
Survivors of Suicide Loss Day was first introduced by Senator Harry Reid in 1999. It was officially recognized by the U.S. Congress as a day to promote healing and support for those affected by suicide loss. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has been instrumental in organizing events and resources for survivors.
Since then, Survivors of Suicide Loss Day has grown into a global movement, providing solace and connection for survivors and increasing awareness of suicide prevention and mental health.
Participating in Survivors of Suicide Loss Day can be a meaningful way to find support and healing. Here are ways to get involved:
